By the time most couples get to marriage counseling they are already emotionally divorced.  

SYMPTOMS OF EMOTIONAL DIVORCE:

  • Little or no eye contact
  • Lack of sharing on a personal level- surface conversation only
  • Lack of checking in with each other on a daily basis

  • Have a hard time thinking positively about spouse.
  • Very few positive recent memories with spouse.
  • Shutdown at the sound of spouse’s voice.

  • I get emotionally dysregulated when I think of memories of my marriage.
  • I don't feel safe physically.
  • I don't feel safe emotionally.
  • I can't allow things to happen in this relationship without needing to control them.
  • I am unable to concentrate on thoughts of my choice and am obsessing about this  relationship.
  • I don't have a sense of hope about the future.
